Update 49: Rain, Interviews, Baptisms, and more Rain

This week has been full of activities so here is a hodgepodge assortment of stuffs.

We had a triple baptism service! Two were investigators of the sisters in my district (area). After the service we had spontaneous service because something overflowed (I think it was the font) and we had to mop/squeegee/sweep the water out of the church. It was a wonderful service and I always love to hear the new members bear their testimonies of how learning has changed their life and the gratitude they have for their savior. I had the privilege of interviewing the two in my area to make sure they were prepared to make this sacred covenant with their savior and it always fills my soul with joy to see the change and joy that learning of Jesus Christ has brought into their life.

We got rained on several times this week.

One of our members got engaged to a Khmer lady from Texas.

Our bikes decked out for rainy season. Additional mudflap protection and ponchos attached via plastic bags.

We went to a 3D art world last Monday and had fun taking lots of pictures. Here are some of the better ones.

And one cool story. We were setting up for the engagement and it was raining. We went to take a break and look out over the parking lot (it's like a covered balcony with a railing and mesh net above that). As we're admiring the downpour a car pulls up to the church gate and a girl hops out and starts walking towards the church. As she gets close she stops, looks up, and we wave to her. Then she shouts something like, "Can I ask you some questions about your church?" We waved her to come in downstairs because of course you can! That's my job, answer your questions. The sisters went down to talk to her and came back to get us because she had a guy friend along and they only really spoke English, and two of the sisters are natives and one is American. The guy and girl, Kena and Paul, both have American dads, but Kena has a Vietnamese mom and Paul has a Khmer mom. So turns out Kena watched the musical "The Book of Mormon"(not produced by our church), but it sparked her interest and she really wanted to learn more, so she googled where the closed church was and dragged her friend along so she didn't have to come alone. She's been Christian for a year now and Paul has an interesting back story. His grandparents were missionaries for a Christian organization and his dad was born in the Philippines. Then his dad went to America for highschool and seminary and returned to the mission field in Cambodia where he has remained. His dad was key in helping translate the Bible into Khmer, which I use, and is currently working on the updated translation of the Old Testament. We had a good first lesson in English. Feels so weird to teach in English and not in Khmer. And passed her info along to the office elders, they teach english speakers and go to the international branch and she came to church on Sunday!

When the Spirit leaves you both dumbfounded.

Love y'all!

Update 46: Transfers Happen

Elder Phouen is up in SineSok now and I'm still working hard with Elder Cox here in JumGauMoon. We have the other two elders in our area splitting it with us so we've been working things out most of this week. Did have one cool lesson with a Sopawl. He wants to bring two of his friends with him to the next lesson to learn about God's plan for us. Yes! The work rolls on.

Candy: White peanut toffe stuff we bought off of a bike. New guy is in the picture!
Minions: We had trio cups to match. Oh yeah
Byebye party: Sister Om finished her mission and we had a party to say bye. Cake and snow spray included.
Snail: Tried snail. It was a one time thing.

Love you all!

Update 47/48: Mothers Day Was Last Week and This Week Was Rainy

Last week, I video called home and didn't manage to get a general email out. We had BYU come and put on a performance with their international fold dance team and it was super cool! I also ran into a girl from my freshman BYU ward who was on the same activities committee as me. And all the young single adults and youth from all over cambodia came down for it so I got to see lots of people from my old areas! It was so good to see them all.

This week it has rained a lot. The hot season should be transitioned into rainy season soon. I did my first ever baptismal interview for the sisters investigator. A very sweet old lady who has a strong love of her father in heaven. She was baptized on Sunday.

Life is short, just like my email time, use it wisely. I love you all!

He 'met' Everett and Kicsi for the first time.
We love you, Elder Taylor!!! 💗💗💗

Update 45: Zone Conference Gets Funky and Fairy Godmothers

This week we had zone conference and our area seventy, Elder Funk, came to speak with our mission. We focused a lot on doing the little things right; making our mission ship "tight like unto a dish."
("And they were built after a manner that they were exceedingly tight, even that they would hold water like unto a dish; and the bottom thereof was tight like unto a dish; and the sides thereof were tight like unto a dish; and the ends thereof were peaked; and the top thereof was tight like unto a dish; and the length thereof was the length of a tree; and the door thereof, when it was shut, was tight like unto a dish.")  https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/ether/2.17?lang=eng#16
Anywho, also had transfer calls this week! I am going to be staying in my area with Elder Cox. So since last transfer was the last transfer of his training, we decided I was his godfather, because the trainer is the father and I was just kinda tagging along for the last half. But now I'm his second companion in country, which would normally make me his mother. However, since  I'm already his godfather, we figure this now makes me his fairy godmother? Either way it's going to be  a blast. Our area is re-splitting too with Elder Try, my mom, coming in to train a new greenie. Elder Phoeun is going to SineSok, right up by where my last area, TukThlaa, was, to be zone leader with my MTC companion, Elder Millett. There is also going to be a mini sister missionary, serving for a few weeks before heading out to a different country, in my district from TukThlaa. It's a small Cambodian word.

*Just wanted to add some information that Chet sent in an email to me:
"Transfer calls were last night. I will be Elder Cox's mother, so still comps, and still in our current area. It will be resplit though and elder try, my mother, will be training in the other half. I'm also district leader now. So as Elder Vanpelt dreamed of in The Best Two Years "Junior companion to District Leader!" Although I'd almost managed to make it a full year without being district leader! "
